An American Journey: Images of Railroading During The Depression - By Mark S. Vandercook.
This 11 1/2 x 8 3/4" 164-page, hardcover book takes you on a photographic journey through the height of the Great Depression, beginning in 1935, and ending just prior to our entry into the war in 1941. The photographs, taken by President Roosevelt's Farm Security Administration, were originally intended to document the effects of the Depression on the American people. Through 143 black & white photographs this book depicts life during not only a time of great hardship, but also a time when the railroad was a significant and integrated part of American culture.
